Our History

1973

Norman Williams, a plater, welder and blacksmith by trade, identified a need for the manufacture of high quality, durable oil storage tanks in response to the emerging market of the domestic heating industry. Thus, establishing NL Williams Engineering.

1979

To facilitate the expansion of the company, and the business move into product finishing, the business moved in to a two acre site to accommodate for future development. The newly built factory has been the base of operations for the company ever since.

1985

With profound success, the company accredited for “BS 5750 Quality assurance” underlining our commitment to quality excellence.

1990

NL Williams Group was soon recognised by a high profile bridge fabricator in assisting them to reach the queens awards for export. At the end of the year, 23 bridges for South America where produced, which totalled at 58,000 square meters of heavy duty non-slip coatings.

1991

In 1991, investments were made internally to cater for the formation of “Permadeck Systems”. The independent operating business unit concentrates on underfoot safety solutions and anti-slip surfacing components, which comply with the current “DDA” rules and regulations.

1993

Finding a niche within the industrial market, the company invested into surface preparation. Our Enviroprep™ machines come in various blasting widths and can be either hydraulically or electrically operated. Surface preparation applications include the removal of existing coatings and the removal of mill scale & corrosion.

1997

The year introduced a company name change to “NL Williams Group”, reflecting the company's continued growth and expansion into new and developing market opportunities.

2004

The Business was rebuilt due to a devastating fire, and in honour of Norman's legacy.

2007

Shortly after the rebuild, NL Williams inveseted in Research and development facilities and the HUB and Quality Assurance offices.

2009

Continued funds supplied the business with the state of the art “Marketing Facility”. Our very own marketing suite was built to cater for both client and business needs with modern IT, multimedia and networking equipment facilities.

2012

Bead Blasting Booth
Demand for Bead Blasting was at an all-time high and in 2012; £150,000 was invested into two nonferrous blasting bays, built for the process of non-ferrous fabrications.

2014

From our research and development centre, new product services where created in 2014 within our Permadeck systems unit. Permacast ® stair treads and nosings were added our product portfolio. NL Williams Group further achieved major contracts from glass manufacturers and fire resistance laboratories.

2016

NL Williams Group progessed, and hired apprentices’ in marketing, sales and QA production.

2017

Throughout the upcoming year, NL Williams Group is undergoing a corporate re brand which will formalise our group structure and deliver the business into the modern era.
